Master Thesis – Multi-Objective Optimization for Tire Development (m/f/d) - REF93540N

The R&D Data Science Team at our Hannover-Stöcken location is responsible for data-based support of research and development in the field of tires. To achieve this, we utilize a mix of self-service business intelligence solutions and modern machine learning techniques to provide our tire developers with advanced tools for the tires of the future. Within this exciting work environment at our location in Hanover-Stöcken, we are offering a master thesis position (incl. internship) starting September 2026. For the best learning experience possible, the internship should require a duration of about 3 months. Your tasks: • Formulate tire concept selection as a constrained multi-objective optimization problem based on multiple predictive models • Integrate heterogeneous prediction outputs such as point predictions, prediction intervals, probabilities, and reliability indicators into a common optimization framework • Incorporate prediction uncertainty using risk-aware objectives, chance constraints, Monte Carlo evaluation, sensitivity analysis, or related methods • Ongoing studies in mathematics, computer science, data science, statistics, engineering or a comparable quantitative field, ideally with a specialization in optimization, machine learning, statistics, operations research or numerical methods  • Knowledge of machine learning, predictive modeling, statistics, or uncertainty quantification  • Basic understanding of multi-objective optimization, Pareto concepts, or numerical optimization methods  • Experience with scientific documentation and structured evaluation of algorithms is beneficial • Python, ideally including common data science and optimization libraries   • Very good command of English, written and spoken  • ​Structured operation​, analytical thinking and an interest in technical optimization problems  • Proactive communication​  Please attach your current certificate of enrollment and also your current transcripts of records and an extract of certificate for a mandatory internship.
